Tweens, Teens and Vaccines: Can’t Live With Them; Can’t Live Without Them? will feature two great presenters from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who will provide data and information about the vaccination status of our nation’s teens and tweens and discuss upcoming campaigns to promote vaccination of this sometimes hard to reach population and their parents.
Objectives:
- Provide an overview of adolescent immunization rates, reviewing progress with Tdap and MCV4 coverage, as well as continuing challenges with the HPV vaccine coverage rates
- Identify strategies for developing and coordinating HPV vaccination communication messages designed for parents of adolescents and for providers
- Provide an overview of CDC’s Vaccines for Preteens and Teens communication campaign plans
Anne Schuchat, M.D.

Dr. Schuchat has made significant contributions to infectious disease prevention through research, surveillance, and policy, developing guidelines and disease monitoring systems, conducting pre- and post-licensure vaccine evaluations, and collaborating with partners to accelerate the availability of vaccines and prevention programs. She has worked in West Africa on meningitis and pneumonia vaccine studies, in South Africa on surveillance and prevention projects, in China on SARS emergency response, and as CDC’s Chief Health Officer during the H1N1 pandemic response.Since December 2005, Dr. Schuchat has served as the Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, which implements the nation’s Vaccines for Children Program and houses the CDC’s influenza and other respiratory infectious disease programs. Dr. Schuchat also serves on the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) Board representing technical and health research institutes.
