National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is April 21-28, 2012.  NIIW is an annual observance that highlights the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrates the achievements of immunization programs and their partners in promoting healthy communities. Since 1994, NIIW has served as a call to action for parents, caregivers, and health-care providers to ensure that infants are fully immunized against 14 vaccine-preventable diseases.

Each year, states find unique ways to use this week to call attention to infant immunizations in their communities.  In addition, CDC often launches new resources for states to use not only during NIIW, but year-round.  During NIIW this year, we are excited to announce that CDC will be launching new childhood immunization communication resources and campaigns (in Spanish and English), highlighting Provider Resources for Vaccine Conversations with Parents, and recognizing the recipients of the inaugural CDC Childhood Immunization Champion Award.  Please join us to review tools available for creating a NIIW program tailored to your community’s needs, hear from colleagues in the field about their experiences with NIIW, and learn about the new communication resources, including print ads/posters and TV and radio PSAs.

Teleconference will include:

  • Overview of National Infant Immunization Week - CDC
  • State/Coalition Experiences with NIIW – The Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI)
  • Local/Coalition Experiences with NIIW - Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition (SNIHC)
  • Overview of new childhood immunization resources – CDC
  • Questions and Answers
